Navigating the Pitfalls and Possibilities of Online Dating

Online dating is a big part of the modern dating scene--it opens up possibilities for dating that you may not find during your average work day, trip to the gym or childcare routines. So if you're finding it challenging to meet good matches, it can be a good resource.

The challenge is that everyone and their dog can be online dating these days, so how can you navigate the experience well and not get disillusioned quickly by unwanted advances, creepy responses or just no responses at all and give up?

Comes join us as we hear from both sides of men and women's perspectives in online dating, have an opportunity to talk about your experiences and comes away from the night with new insights or ideas to get the most out of online dating.

After a short introduction we'll be talking through some questions on this topic with each other in the big group.

If you’re local to Portland, Oregon, come join us!--the conversations are always thoughtful and lively! Grab a drink or eats and come to the community room. Meet a new friend and stay afterwards at the Kennedy Schools bars or restaurants.

Dating in the Modern World

Bored at home and wondering if now is a good time to spice up your dating life?

If you can’t meet in person right now and have more time on your hands, it may be a great time to prepare yourself more mentally and emotionally to meet a great mate.

So much of what we bring to dating is our mindset and how we feel about what we deserve. We’ll talk about this and the practicality of what options to take when you want to date in today’s modern world.

Join us for session two of four in our relationship series on dating in the modern world. I’ll be leading the discussion with Kirstin Moran, leader of the ministry One Single Thread. We’ll cover topics including but not limited to: making an effort with dating, online dating and trusting God’s timing. We’ll also spend time in connection and prayer during our virtual session.

Come meet other singles while you’re stuck at home!

Join the call here, this Friday April 3rd at 7pm, PST.

What are Emotionally Available People and Why Do We Date Them?

Dating an emotionally unavailable person can lead to a lot of dissatisfaction in a relationship. You may be dating a person who is fun to be with, someone who you have great chemistry with and checks off all of your boxes--but you notice that something feels off. It can feel hurtful to feel like they aren't really with you or aren't able to open up or see the real you.

Why do we sometimes date a person for much longer than we'd want if they are not available for an emotional connection?

Emotional Unavailability is term gets thrown around a lot these days,

SO, come join us as we talk about:

-What does emotional unavailability mean?
-How do we spot it while dating?
-What tendencies do people have who are emotionally unavailable?
-How can we break this pattern if we have a history of dating emotionally unavailable people?

We'll start the discussion with learning a few things about emotional availability and then respond to discussion questions together. Each person has a chance to share as much or as little about their experience as they feel comfortable. We're always learning from each other and hope you'll leave with good takeaways to improve your dating experience.

Navigating Well Through Online Dating: Profiles, Messaging, Selection

These days if you want to start dating, you'll have the most opportunities dating online.

But is there like an art to it?

How do you create an effective profile? How do you engage in a sincere way and find the others who are genuine in their profiles too? How do you navigate your preferences with a stranger? Can you really tell right away if it's not a fit or do you invest more time to find out?

I believe there are more successful ways to approach it so that you can attract a good person and be more likely to spend less time with people who are not realistic options for you. Let's talk about what works and what gets fewer results. We'll make time to get feedback from others on questions you have or tips you'd like on your profile/messaging approach.

This month we're taking advantage of the weather and meeting at picnic tables in a park. We'll keep the conversation shorter and socialize afterwards--feel free to bring a Frisbee or whatever games you would want to play.

Look forward to seeing you then!
If you like, bring a drink or snack to share.
